Simulation of a citizens’ assembly at the Secondary School of Marco de Canaveses (Portugal)

The University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research (UCILeR), coordinator of the EU-CIEMBLY project, visited Marco de Canaveses Secondary School on 10 March 2026 to promote its research, particularly in the area of democracy. The UCILeR team, formed by Fernando Borges and Lucía Muñoz, and with the collaboration of Beatriz Mello, led a 90-minute session divided into two parts.

In the first part, a simulation of a citizens' assembly was held. Adapting some of the activities already carried out in the Colchester pilot, such as the empathy map, the students, divided into groups, deliberated and discussed a set of recommendations relating to housing.
