As part of the communication campaign for the EU-CIEMBLY project, researchers from UCILeR organized an interactive session at Marco de Canaveses Secondary School on 30 April, aimed at engaging students in a discussion about democracy.
The team—Dulce Lopes, Lucía Muñoz, and Fernando Borges—used two educational games developed within the project to create a dynamic and participatory learning environment. URGE: Deliberative Democracy, Now, created by Alexandra Aragão, encouraged students to define and reflect on key democratic concepts. SimulEU – Youth Assembly: Participate, Deliberate, Transform, designed by Clara Serrano, placed students in the role of delegates, debating current European issues and proposing solutions.
This hands-on approach allowed students not only to explore theoretical aspects of democracy but also to experience its practical application through dialogue and collaboration.
The activity was held as part of the Cientificamente Provável (Scientifically Probable) programme, which connects research units such as UCILeR with school libraries like the Adão Campos Library to foster scientific awareness and active citizenship in schools.
